My name is Duane Ankney. I represent House district #43 in the Montana State Legislature. There are those who think that I have lost my mind for getting into this fray. This state has been very good to me and my family, Eastern Montana in particular. I have lived in Eastern Montana since 1969. My wife was born and raised in Billings. We have raised four of our own, and one that came to us when he was a little older in Eastern Montana.

I feel very strongly about providing opportunities for our youth that will enable them to stay in Montana if they so choose. We need to quit talking about developing our natural resources and get with it. The small plant in Hardin that was just completed shows that with some determination and plowing through the obstacles, economic growth can occur. This plant will add an additional 4 to 5 million dollars tax revenue to the state in property taxes alone. Mining, construction, and other types of industry bring money back to the farms and ranches in Eastern Montana. The more of this type of activity that we have, answers another big problem we are faced with right now which is how to fund our schools? Without economic growth we will not have solid tax revenue and we can not keep taxing those who can no longer give.

I represent this district with the respect that it deserves.
